Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information PRTL ("we," "us") collects when you use the PRTL mobile app, why we collect it, and how it's stored. PRTL turns a wall-mounted display into a calendar, weather readout, stock ticker, and rotating art frame, controlled from your phone.

1.Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information directly from your use of the app:

We do not ask for or knowingly collect payment card numbers, government ID, precise health information, or biometric data.

2.How we use your information

  • To operate the app: authenticate you, sync your Rooms/Displays/Modes, and apply content to your frame.
  • To generate content you asked for: turning your photo selections, calendar, stock watchlist, weather location, or art prompt into an image shown on your display.
  • To provide customer support when you contact us.
  • To maintain and secure the service (e.g. detecting abuse of generation limits).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photos, calendar, or location data for advertising or to train third-party models beyond what's needed to generate the specific image or display you requested.

3.Third parties and service providers

We use the following service providers to run PRTL. They process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore database) stores your account credentials and app content.
  • Google Cloud Storage stores generated/rendered images, served to your app and frame via short-lived signed URLs.
  • Google Gemini API receives the prompts and inputs needed to generate AI images (and, for a small amount of text generation, a single stateless request with no saved conversation history).
  • Uploadcare handles file/photo uploads initiated from the app.

We do not currently use any advertising or analytics SDK in the app. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.

4.Storage and retention

Your account and app content are stored in Google Firebase/Firestore, namespaced to your account. Generated and rendered images are stored in Google Cloud Storage and served via signed URLs that expire after a short window (currently about 15 minutes). The underlying file remains in storage until deleted.

We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. When you request deletion (see below), we delete your account record, your Firestore content, and your stored images [TODO: confirm actual internal SLA; placeholder default: within 30 days] of a verified request, except where we're required to keep information for legal or security reasons.

5.Your choices and controls

  • Photos, location, and calendar access are all optional, per-permission, and requested only when you use the mode that needs them. You can grant, deny, or revoke any of them at any time in your device's Settings app.
  • Revoking a permission stops that mode from working, but doesn't affect the rest of the app.
  • You can stop using any mode at any time from within the app.

6.Deleting your account and data

You can permanently delete your account and its content from inside the app: open Settings, then under Account tap Delete Account and confirm. This removes your account and its cloud content, and cannot be undone.

Some generated images and secondary records may take a short time to be fully purged from storage after you delete your account. If you have trouble deleting your account, or want to confirm everything was removed, email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.

7.Children's privacy

PRTL is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

8.Security

We rely on Firebase Authentication and Firestore security rules to restrict access to your data to your own account, and on short-lived signed URLs rather than public links for generated images. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

9.Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, notify you in the app or by email.
